EXPERIENCE GLENN JOCHUM & FRIENDS

The Earthtones

Picture
Since forming in 2004, the Earthtones (Rick Hall and Glenn Jochum) have averaged 50 performances a year, placing them solidly among the North Fork’s busiest and most sought-after duos. Featuring a distinctive blend of vocals and guitars, the twosome — whose name derives from their love for nature and acoustic music — stoke your memories by revisiting the classics. From Neil Young to the Zac Brown Band, the Grateful Dead to Old Crowe Medicine Show, and the Decembrists to The Beatles, the Earthtones unearth pop’s treasures with reverence and passion, making them a must-have for your next party or event. The Winosaurs

Dennis Foster and Glenn Jochum, founders of the Winosaurs (2016) go way back. In 1973, back when Foster was the solo nightly act at the famous Shagwong’s Restaurant in Montauk, NY, Jochum didn’t even own his own guitar yet. The two quickly became friends though and traveled across country with Shagwong owner’s brother Peter Hewitt and a beloved fisherman everyone knew simply as “Bald George.” Previously, Foster had been invited to travel with folksinging legend Rambling Jack Elliot in Aspen Colorado, where he played solo a few winters. The City Island, NY native ventured east with his sister Janice where he made a name for himself as a regular folkslinger to entertain the locals and the Hamptonites alike. Jochum was the lead singer and frontman for the Montauk group Oaxaca and the house band in the summer of 1974 at the popular Lakeside Inn. Foster and Jochum both went their own ways after that to raise families until 1999 when his then-wife invited Jochum to Foster’s birthday party in Wading River. The two began jamming and realized they loved many of the same artists, eventually adding a bass player to play Dune Road nightclubs in Westhampton Beach. But their work schedules didn’t mesh and they drifted apart again until Jochum looked Foster up online in 2016 and this time, they got serious about playing music, adding nightclubs, wineries and family farms on the North Fork of Long Island to their portfolio. Since then they have become a staple act at Harbes Family Farm and added multi-instrumentalist Eric Shoenfeld in 2021. Interestingly, Shoenfeld and Jochum shared the same alma mater, Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster PA, though they never knew one another then. The trio plays a wide array of music including rockabilly and 1950s ballads as well as Top 40 hits and album cuts from the 1960s through the 1980s. “Dennis is an amazing rhythm guitarist and can drive any song as well as one of the best pickers I have ever known,” said Jochum adding, “Eric can really wail on sax and gives us a whole new dimension and audience to play for.”

The Front Porch Rockers

Picture
Glenn Jochum found Steve Leighton by pure luck. When a keyboard player he was playing with went online he found Leighton’s Sheep Pasture Studio in Stony Brook advertised there and the two set about recording promo tracks to get more work. Leighton’s affability matched his versatility and before long Jochum was recording his original music there. The pair would wind up making four CDs together in four consecutive years from 2016-2019, with Leighton not only mixing and mastering the disks but also playing most of the instruments and providing back-up vocals. Each time a CD was completed Leighton and Jochum would showcase the original songs at a release party. Several times Leighton filled in for Earthtones bandmate Rick Hall when he was unavailable for a performance and Jochum decided to make it part of an annual tradition that the pair join up for a number of gigs each year in venues from Port Jefferson to Jamesport. “What shall we call ourselves, they wondered one day?” We’re just a couple of front porch rockers really,” was the agreed upon answer and the name stuck. “Steve can play just about anything if you give him the key,” says Jochum.
